Seattle's ace returns to the hill Monday night at T-Mobile Park, I touch on what I am watching for from him as well as a bunch of listener questions on today's episode!
I’m sure you’ll hit on him in your deadline guide but, I’m wondering if Yandy Diaz might be a sneaky mariners move at the deadline.
1. He’s on the Rays and we know how much Jerry loves doing moves with the Rays/how willing they always are to move players.
2. With Arranda being very good at first and plenty of young players who could get time cycling through the DH, he’s expendable to the Rays.
3. Diaz fits the spray the ball to all fields profile that you talked about being valuable in T-Mobile park.
4. He’s cost controlled and has 1 1/2-2 1/2 years of control left. Jerry loves to work in that window.
He’s certainly not perfect and is aging but there’s still plenty of red in his statcast profile and is still running a 112 WRC+ even in a down year by his standards. He also gives the Mariners a badly needed option to play first against lefties and another good righty bat in general. If the Rays have dropped their asking price seeing as he hasn’t been as good and has one year less of control, I think it might be a sneaky solid M’s target for the deadline who hasn’t been talked about as much since the year started.
